Despite all the weddings I’ve shot over the years, the beginning of each new season brings with it a certain sense of apprehension, a desire to start well and get into the groove. So I was really fortunate and delighted to have had S & B’s marriage celebration to shoot in May, at the wonderful historic Abbey of Saint Florent le Vieil and the nearby Chateau de Vair, halfway between Nantes and Angers.
Fortunate I say, because despite the inclement weather, the couple just exuded sunshine and joy.
S & B, a Franco-Danish bride and groom, living presently in Copenhagen, were not only wonderfully relaxed, but beautifully expressive in their love for each other. I’ve also rarely seen a couple laugh so much during the day, especially during the Church ceremony. Nor kiss each other as much, even allowing for the special Danish traditions which help encourage this. One of the other fun and quirky traditions is the way the circle of guests close steadily around the couple during their first waltz, with the males then lifting the groom, pulling off his shoes and cutting the end of his socks. All to be done before midnight, for good luck ! I’m a real fan of these cultural festive touches, they bring real warmth and sense of shared pleasure to the occasion.
